It’s that time of the week. Time for me to sort through a hefty pile of dog-shit to bring you the gems worth listening to. Seriously though, about one out of every three of the submissions I listen to sound like they were made by ten year olds on an old Casio keyboard, so you better appreciate this.
Vitamin #1:
I did get lucky and the very first submission was actually pretty bomb. It’s a rework of Boris Dlugosch’s Bangkok. The original’s hook got a once-over that will definitely make you bounce. I couldn’t find a lot about Dark Tokyo, but his e-mail was very polite and friendly and it included emoticons, so I imagine he/she’s Asian. Maybe I’m just a racist. Either way, you’ve caught our attention Dark Tokyo. Let us know if we can get our hands on anything else.
Vitamin #2:
The next tune worth your while is a remix of Vacay all-star Wolfgang Gartner’s Latin Fever. My roommate walked in on me while I was listening to this one and apparently I was dancing like an asshole while still sitting on my couch. I don’t believe him because I dance like a champion, but that anecdote should give you an idea as to how sweet this Vitamin is.
Vitamin #3:
Now its time to get a little Vacay-Disco up in this bitch. I give you a track by Brooklyn’s PUNCHES. These guys have their first gig at Public Assembly in Brooklyn on Saturday. They’re playing alongside Justin Faust so it sounds like it should be a good time. Hit it up if you can. In the meantime, enjoy their remix of Only You Can Make You Happy by Au Revoir Simone. It has a funky-ass bassline, some serious horn action, and some synth strings for kicks. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing more from these folks soon.
Vitamin #4:
Last but not least we’ve got two tracks from ATLAS worth sharing. These guys are a new duo also that also hail from Brooklyn. You may have heard their remix of Maps by Yeah Yeah Yeahs on HypeM, but in case you didn’t I’ve included it. The second track is a nicely subdued remix of The Crystal Method’s Come Back Clean. I’m actually not a fan of The Crystal Method, which is weird because I love all things that have to do with the movie Blade II, but this is a really well done remix.
Hope you enjoyed this weeks Vacay Mailbag. Thanks for the submissions everyone. Keep the Vitamins coming.
