Poor Penguin Prison. Based on the fact “Something I’m Not” was released February 15th, he can’t possibly have had a happy Valentine’s Day. It’s a phenomenal track, but also one that a lot of us can definitely relate to.
“If we can tie ourselves together, I’ll become something I’m not.” At the core of it, sure, it’s about redemption. More than that, though, it’s about the expectations of a relationship. Anytime you’re committed to someone, there’s an element of trust that has to overcome the uncertainties attached to that person. We don’t know everything about who we’re with, but we know enough to know that we’re willing to accept the risk. Inevitably, like with every investment, there’s bound to be a letdown, and the expectations you set at the beginning determine how you react. It’s when reality meets fairytale expectations that problems arise.
