Ra Ra Riot – Can You Tell + Boy (Indie Electro – New York)

The Ra Ra Riot’s don’t list a genre on their myspace, which is quiet understandable, but instead write “Healing & Easy Listening.” This is precisely the vitamins they manufacture and I needed today. After a long day staring at my computer mindlessly, I find myself desperately in need of some vitamins. However, the last thing I wanted to hear was car horns or thunderous wobbles. I needed some easy listening music with some extra strength healing power. Soon enough I re-discovered my love for Discovery, which led me to a great remake of the Ra Ra Riot track Can You Tell. Discovery, is a side project of Wes Miles, Ra Ra Riot lead singer, and Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend. I still can’t decide which version I Iike most, as they are all sooo different. I honestly don’t think you can compare them, as they only just have the lyrics in common. But if my life depended on a decision, I would go with Discovery.

Can You Tell, Vitamins

Ra Ra Riot’s are coming out with their sophomore album, entitled The Orchard; produced by Ra Ra Riot and Andrew Maury, with mixing from Chris Walla (plus one song by Rostam). Im really hoping its completely different, even if everyone doesn’t LOVE it (deep down I just want more Discovery vitamins). Miles puts it much better in an interview:

“Doing Discovery helped me feel like you don’t really have to do what you think is good, you just do what you want. There’s a subtle difference… We just wanted to make something that was uniquely ours. Even if less people will ultimately get it, that’s the plan.”

So cool to see these guys up here. Went to high school with guitar player Milo Binassi! And and the other members of Gym Class Heroes (he was an original member)! Funny how our crappy little town of Geneva, NY can produce such acclaimed musicians.

Best to all of you at Vacay. Love your stuff. Never stop!
